MGB V8 Starter - Coil Connection?

I am fitting a std V8 starter to my B. The previous starter was a High Torque 1.8 version and did not have the option to connect to the coil, but the starter had to be replaced as I have changed the box to a LT77.

The original wiring diagrams show a wire going from the starter directly to the coil. The supply went to the same point via a Resistor.

Is it true that this connection was so the coil voltage did not drop during cranking?

I have been runnung with out the connection but as the wire is there and the V8 starter has the output connector I though I should reconnect it.

Will this cause me any problems with the ignition module I have in the Mallory Dizzy?

Cheers.

That system is only required if you run a ballast resistor, If you run a 12v coil it is a pointless exercize,

I have a Ballast resistor in my circuit. I believe I need it for the type of coil I have.

and

I have had problems starting from cold ever since I have had the car.

It would seem that fitting this wire may help starting then?

If you have a ballast resistor wired and not run the 12v bypass feed you are going to have trouble starting.

Thanks Ian.
I always assumed the poor starting was due to the choke set up wrong.
It is probably a combination of both choke and bypass feed missing.
