Is there any benefit in using either Piper or Kent cam followers over original Rover items.
Plus is there any disadvantage in using non genuine standard followers over the genuine item.

Question with a Question, it depends on what cam your using? Piper,Kent Crane lifters are high rev lifter, standard arent. If you have a cam that makes the engine rev higher you need to use the high rev type as the standard wont let the engine rev as high.

It is generally accepted that standard lifters are good for 5,800 rpm and it is not until you get to the serious competition cams that the peak power is 6,000 rpm.
What i'm trying to say is would standard followers be ok for the majority of aftermarket cams used in RV8's, as generally these cams have peak power at 5,000 rpm. The Kent H214 i the one i will be using.
Some people will fit all manner of hi-po parts in their engines including steel cranks and forged pistons etc but never use the engine to anywhere near it's potential.
The other question was, is there a quality issue with non genuine lifters, as i suppose it would take a trained eye to spot the difference.

peak power is not where your engine will rev to, you need to look at the peak rpm of the cam not where the peak power is. I think you will find its higher than 5800 on your 214 so yes you need to use high rev lifter. On the other hand if you plan on adding a rev limiter where your peak power is then fine you dont need to but it wont be a very nice car to drive.
I dont think you will find many people running steel cranks and forged pistons round here and not needing them either.

What size engine you are running?
I have got stage3 4,6 efi with H214 Kent cam, and engine peak power is 5020rpm ( i estimate now 5500rpm , because i tuned my engine more)
I use std rover lifters without proplem.
But when i fit the H214 cam, and i use kent lifters first summer, i have got cold ticking proplem with those lifters?? Have no idea why they ticking every "cold" start (over 1minut ticking). If they are leaky lifters, that can explain everythink.?
Then i change kent lifters to std items, and no more ticking proplem when engine is cold..
I say kent followers are suck, but no idea if use crane??
Or my kent lifters can be faulty unit when they leave in factory..

I have used std lifters, Real Steel hi-rev lifters and currently Crane lifters. All have been noisy for the first 2-3 seconds when starting the engine, all have allowed revs past 6000 rpm.

Might be interested in gleaning some info from you some time, as i'm also interested in converting a Morris Minor.
