Camshaft Help please !

Looking for some help please !

Currently have a Eales 5.2 V8, .
It has a 'bonkers' camshaft in there (what came with it - i used what I could to build it back up - as was in bits - but its not road friendly !), and I am also fairly sure that is also past its best ... (I used it as ran out of money with re liners etc etc !).....

So, I have done a fair bit of research whilst I saved to change the cam etc - and asked a few of those who I know have some ideas (better than mine) on Cams etc....

Seem to be leaning towards a Kent H180G (its a short nose type camshaft) others have suggested H200 ? - thoughts on either please ?
I really want to have a nice wide rev range and bottom end grunt ....any comments or other suggestions ?

Now, at the same time also thinking prob a good idea to replace the timing gears (currently standard LR) with I THINK P/N - Cloyes Street True Roller Timing Sets 9-1132 - is this correct for a Serpentine front end V8 ? .....or again any other good units to choose from ?

Then The Camshaft Followers
I have been told by quite a few that Genuine ERR4949 followers can no longer can be bought - and to be very wary of which aftermarket followers are OK,... so - suggestions on brand(s).... and maybe where to buy / Avoid ! ... please ?

Any other useful info hugely appreciated !

Nige

Hi Nige,

I have a 4.6-liter with 10.5:1 compression. I use the Kent H180, but with two SU carburetors.
The engine has enormous torque from idle and drives very well. The car is a heavy 4x4, so it's not really a sporty car. But the torque surges suit the car well.

What car is your 5.2 engine in?
What kind of camshaft is it currently in?

Regards,
Frank

Then that might work. I wouldn't go for the H200; it's too tame in my opinion.
I think the Viper Stump Puller would also be suitable. It's not quite as powerful at the bottom end, but it can rev a bit better.

But that only makes sense if you drive fast. The H180 can handle the short sprint, too.

Do you know which camshaft is currently installed in your engine?
Is it EFI?
