Rover V8, throttle sticking

Hello,

My first post here, looking for help with my Westfield Seight. It’s fitted with a Rover, JE rebuilt, 3.9 V8, Lucas ECU, Tornado chip, single plenum/throttle body.

I have an issue with the revs hanging and it appears to be the throttle linkage is not fully closing when the pedal is released. What’s strange is this problem is only there when the engine is running. With the engine off the linkage closes with a decent snap so isn’t snagging or binding.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

James

I have a completely different setup (4 barrel TBI) but similar symptoms. It felt as if the engine vacuum was holding the throttle open. I put a second return spring on and it seemed to help.l

When you say the 'throttle is hanging' does this happen when the car is stationary or just when it is rolling to a stop?
The reason I ask is that the 14CUX system has a 'moving idle' of around 1300RPM which takes place until the road speed drops to around 3MPH.
As you car is not standard the road speed sensor may give a different threshold speed (as mine does).

Thanks, it’s happening at all speeds and stationary.

fit a stronger spring at the throttle end ?

Is cable smooth etc ? Are you logging throttle position vs rpm etc to see if it is actually lagging ?

I presume you also have a return spring on the throttle pedal?

Thanks for the help. I replaced the ICV, disassembled and cleaned the throttle spindle/linkage, reset the TPS and fitted an additional return spring. Hanging revs are now sorted and idle is much better, however I also did a smoke test which has shown up loads of vacuum leaks so that’s the next job.

Can I ask which/what spring you fitted additionally? I'm now having the same symptoms with my SEiGHT.

I used this type as I had one spare:

This is what it should look like:
