hello folks, i am a new member, i am in the states, currently restoring mgb gt 1971, i have a Buick 215, aka rover 3.5, the engine is rebuilt, trying to replicate the mgb gt v8 as much a possible, these cars were never imported to the states, changed it to right drive, the engine has the v8 intake, with the trousers and need the proper carbs, i bought some carbs but they are the wrong ones, probably rover carbs, hard to identify, i have most of the carb linage parts for the mgb gt v8 but they do not fit my carbs. when a new carb is needed how do you folks obtain one, checked all the sellers mgoc, rimmers, etc, they do not have them, burlen-su lists but are not available, any suggestions about would be helpful, the engine on the run stand and ready to be started, been working on the car for 3 years, been doing a lot rust repair and modifying the engine bay for the v8.

An original MGB rv8 would have "Rover " carbs being that it was fitted with a Rover 3.5l V8 . Not sure if they had SU carbs or the later Stromburgs . Unless your megga fussy either would do, tho I would prefer the SU's but I guess it depends what you can find
Just a thought , I have a performer manifold and a 390 Holley , which may not fit in an MGB but have a look at the bonnet ( hood ) line / profile of the MGC ( to clear the straight 6 under it ) ....... I mean its no BJ8 but still a nice aggressive hinting bulge .

Mike

SU carbs are getting thin on the ground even over this side of the pond and most want to sell them as reconditioned and insist on return of your core units.

Perhaps try some Land Rover /Range Rover dealers in the States.

The early V8 3500cc engines ran the same carbs

If it's an actual old SU with the remote fuel reservoir etc...probably out of luck.

If the slightly more modern HIF version, maybe ask this guy

Although I'd think Burlen carry most parts to make something work ?

Or just fit the likes of a Holley which can be serviced locally.

If you haven't already, do contact the MGCC V8 register, they have all of the knowledge. And I suspect you have also heard of Clive Wheatley who does the special to V8 'B bits like the MG rocker boxes (valve covers).
