Reving engine at idle.

Hi all, newbie here so go easy. I yesterday started my Rover 3.5 for the first time using a QFT 4.5 cfm carbie and it ran fine. This morning I had trouble starting it so I hooked up the electric choke ( it wasn’t hooked up initially). I eventually got it started but it reved really high. I’m wondering whether the choke might have gotten stuck on?
Any ideas
Thanks

possibly, or it's not setup or adjusted correctly.

Chokes can also open the throttle little more for a higher idle as well as adjusting things so the engine gets a little richer. ( whether blocking airflow to achieve this, or increasing fuel, or a combination ?

How about the basics? Is there enough return spring on everything to make everything fully close?
