Piston weight..balancing

Why are there millions of recommendations to remove weight off a piston, yet champfering the inside of a gudgeon pin is easier and less material needs to be removed as steel is heavier.?

I'd like to remove 2.5 grams off a 2618 forged piston.. that's a far bit of aluminium off various places underneath the piston. 1.25g champfered of the inside of each pin end a very small cut.

Thanks

Why are you needing to remove so much ?

I guess ultimately whether it's off the piston or pin probably wont make much odds. Just make sure that pin always goes back in the same place.

But it would be nice to have all pistons the same weight, pins the same weight, etc etc

They are out of the box that way..a bit disappointing for a reputable brand.

I did some test machining last night..if I come in at a shallow 30 degs, I need to 1mm depth to remove 1g..so doing both ends of the pin gives me the 2g I'm after. This leaves heaps of untouch material around the OD.

Thanks for your reply...
