Replacing a tired 3.5

I’m helping a mate replace a tired 1973 P6 bottom end in his Westfield kit which has excess crankcase pressure.
It has later heads fitted etc, it was re ringed when originally put in but I’m guessing it has bore wear.
Thinking about buying a recon short engine in either 3.5/3.9 if all the bits will fit.
Buying something unknown from eBay I wouldn’t be entirely happy with to be honest.
Just wondered if you could offer any advice on my best approach, I’m not sure if it can be rebored etc.
Thanks in advance.

Yes they can be rebored as normal. If you have your own engine rebored and the crank re-ground at a machine shop, at least you then have the choice of pistons to set the CR, and know for sure the work has been done.

If needs be, you can also get new liners from Westwood Cylinder Liners, they aren't going to break the bank, but machining may dig a hole in your pocket.
