Hi everyone !
Been reading loads and learning lots from the forum
But I cant find exatly what im looking for, I have a standard very old and smokey SD1 V8 engine in my landrover running from a Facet Redtop pump and a filter king pressure reg.
What would be the standard pressure setup required for running twin SU carb's on this engine ?
Its currently fludding the carbs + not starting and im trying to work out why so im atempting to be methodical about it all and do one step at a time
Cheers for any help

SU's usually run at 2-3 psi (I think)

A stupid question but why red top, they like to run 6+.
I have a Red top with a Filter King regulator and regret fitting them. The Silver would have been fine and my Webber 500 needs 5psi.
I cannot get a constant flow through the regulator pulling 5psi. I would expect more problems trying to keep it to 2-3.

The Red top has been on there about 10 years now, was on when I got it, she has always run fine with it till I started messing
Im planning on rebuilding the whole engine when I finish all the other jobs. But for now I just need to be able to start it up and move it up and down the drive and I cant even do that !.
Cheers

Matt,
you could also check your float needles aren't sticking.

Iv finally got a pressure gauge for my Filter King and as I thought the pressure was way too high !!
So I have turned it right down to around 2.5psi for now
As you stand at the front of the car and look at the engine the left bank is the one im having trouble with as soon as you turn the pump on and its up to pressure with out the engine running the fuel just starts pouring out of the over flow pipe, both carbs have these pipes and they just run along the top of the block and down the front where it pours to the ground the system has no return pipes in place.
The Right hand carb, this hasn't dropped any petrol at all just the left hand one. Am I going to have to take the carb off the manifold to fix this do you think as getting to the nuts looks real tricky

Sounds like it needs a new needle and seat on the carb that's leaking so it will stop the fuel when the float fills.
You don't need to remove the carb for this (From memory just remove the top of the float bowl (single nut and then remove an replace the needle and seat) (Memory may not be too good as the SU was on a Morris Monor in 1980 - 1983)

Thanks for the Reply Ian,
Im not up much on Carb components, but iv found a diagram on Rimmerbros site.
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/rover/sd1/fuel
They seem to list a Float needle & seat kit - (2) - WZX1100A - does this sound right ?
Could someone point out the individual components from this diagarm as that would help, im pritty sure I know which is the needle
Cheers

WZX1100(2) looks like the bit
It sould be in a bowl near the fuel inlet pipe
