Greetings
I have just bought a part built Morgan replica with a ready fitted RV8 9.35.1 and gearbox. It has a Holley carb on an Edelbrock manifold
Id like to get an Edelbrock carb as Ive read that these are fare easier to setup but I might just seen if I can get a rebuild kit for this Holley if I can find out what it is!
Its got List 6299-1 stamped on it, does this identify which model number it is to enable me to get a rebuild kit? Its a 4 barrel beastie
Expect many more stupid questions over the coming months !
Many Thanks

Welcome matey. Almost bound to be a 390 Holley (code 4150 or 4160 with metering plate) esp if it's a 3.5 or 3.9. But there's Holley ID pages out there on t'Internet. Rebuilt kits about the £25 mark, can't remember if any extra gaskets were needed or not outside of the kit.

Thanks for that. I must have been sleeping just found the beast on the Holley pages. It is indeed a 4160 but with no primary or secondary meter plate (whatever that is?)
So would I be best to sell it and get an Edelbrock or give it a service.
I have heard these Holleys are difficult beasts?

They come or used to) with a plate with fixed jets, but the plate can be swapped for one which allows the jets to be replaced.
Eddy vs Holley, lots of opinions on here, best have a search really. That said though, I found my Holley v.sensitive to float heights and was always having to fiddle with it. Found the Edelbrock less of a bother but then it was much newer. Holley did have awesome stomp from say 15-20mph, neck-snapping stuff when you jumped on the pedal. Gave my other half neck ache for a week (and me earache for two ; ) Got rather better mpg off the Edelbrock round town.

Haynes Holley manual says:
6299-1 (4160)
390 cfm
For hi-perf Pinto/Vega 4-cyl applications .. (?!?)
Manual choke, side pivot bowls, vacuum secondaries.

Damn
So would an Edelbrock 1404, 500CFM be ok for a pretty standard RV8?

Nothing wrong with either a 390 Holley or a Edelbrock 500 for yr motor. I think the questions marks were over using it on a Pinto. Loads of 390s on Rover, and Edelbrock/Weber 500s.
