Well, if using push on on the high pressure side, ensure any rubber hose used, is capable of withstanding the high pressure within an efi system, say 40-50psi is quite normal.
I know that Subarus use a nice compact in-line filter with 8mm hose tails for push on hose.
Prettty much any Subaru turbo from 1990-2001 for definate, although I think even the newer cars use the same filter.
Its a round filter, similar size to a smallish diam oil filter, with hose tails on top.
Obviously this is a filter intended for use before the fuel rails, NOT before the pump itself.
I assume this is what you are looking for ?

Early range rover efi fuel filters are large, flow plenty of fuel, have push on 8mm tails and from your local car parts emporium are cheap as chips.
Just put one on my newly converted 90 (4.3) and works at treat and only cost £3.49 and its a Fram filter aswell.
