Id like to add these to my 3.9 conrods but can anyone tell me if its possible to fit them without any modifications/machining, and does it affect the engine balancing?

not a waste of money,
i think last time i did my 3.9 i bought a set of exchange rods from realsteel that were fitted with arp bolts and had the journals recircled and correct dimentions journal to journal, think that was around £120 then £40 to swap the crowns over for me,
