I may be the last one to know, but I hadn't realised that this is the 50th Anniversary of the Rover V8 engine's arrival in the UK.

Happy birthday, I don't know what I would have done without you,

Is it as late as 1967?, Wikipedia says Rover bought the tooling in 1965. I guess you mean it first appeared in a production Rover in 1967.

Chris.

Didn't you get the invite ?

There were a few hundred cars there, a grand day out you might say.

Funny that this has come up as a thread, my mate is doing some work on a P5, the first registered owner was William Martin-Hurst. I am helping him restore the engine which will going back into the car, The engine number is EXP19 (as in EXPerimental).

You'd have thought very early development cars would have been first registered to the factory? Unless they ran on trade plates only.

William Martin-Hurst used to sell good low mileage older cars at one time - presumably after leaving Rover. Dunno if they are still on the go.
