I have a rover 3.9 with a serpentine belt setup but with a distributor opening from a discovery. The timing cover is the intermediate type. I have fitted the engine into my chrome bumper mgb and am still using the old crossmember. The previous engine owner had welded over the oil filter housing and was using the oil cooler pipes with a remote filter. This suites what I am doing but the bottom oil pipe outlet is going to occupy the same place as the steering rack. Is there a tight elbow fitting I may be able to use in an attempt to keep this setup please?

My first post so forgive my ignorance on the matter.

There are plenty of options out there for what you want to do.
I'd start with the hydraulics places because they will have a large variety of fittings that could work for you.

Thanks for the help, I"ll look into it more. Does anyone know what the fitting is for the oil outlet? I thin I've read somewhere it's either m18 or m20 but there is an olive in the pipe with two seals and the end has been swaged down to a narrower size?

Ok, I've now spent quite some time searching for a forged elbow with what is a m20 male from the timing cover to a 1/2" pipe outlet. I can flare the end of the 1/2" pipe and will attach a rubber hose to it. The problem I still have is to come out of the timing cover and turn direction within 31mm. No fitting seems to do the job as I have to put a straight adaptor into the timing cover to connect a female fitting into it first. Any suggestions please?

Cut, weld, machine, adapt.

I've found a company near me www.bropel.co.uk who are happy to weld the tube if I cut it how I want it. Just a shame I can't get something off the shelf as I am concerned whether a 90 degree welded elbow in the pipe will affect flow and pressure.

That depends on the size of the pipe.

But the oil gallery drillings in the engine block certainly arent shaped for flow.

Obviously curves and smooth fittings would be nice....reality is it probably wont make any real difference unless the hole size was very small.

I had the same problem on my Stag, I used a Banjo fitting and no problems with the flow.

I can find a m20 banjo to a 5/8 straight with barb fitting but apparently you can't get the 1/2" pipe.

Hope this link works showing the oil pipe which goes to the remote filter which I need to use on my mgb. There isn't a fitting available so this was the only option. Thanks to www.bropel.co.uk in Aldridge West Midlands UK for their help in getting the welding done.[/url]

Earls do have loads, and far more than they list on their website...which is a pity really, as it can make it hard to find things.
