Hi , I am a 67 year old with a problem , no not that one . I have had water pumps fail in the past on other engines usual leak from shaft ,but can my v8 pump fail internally or wear so it is not pumping enough coolant around the system ? I built this car in 1984 and has the original pump .

Yes
The vanes could be slipping on the shaft and causing the fluid not to flow.or not flow fully.

Also the radiator could be well crudded up so that flow through it is minimal so not dissipating water throughout the core and allowing heat transfer.

I would certainly do a back flush on the radiator first before removing and checking or replacing the pump

:whs ^ And I have also witnessed eroded pump impellers with obvious results, all worth checking 8-)
