Just trying to work out what might be broken before I start tearing everything apart as its a huge job to get the clutch out of my car.

I cannot get the clutch to disengage, basically it feels like the pedal is not attached to anything. Its a cable not hydraulic, cable is not broken as the fork moves when pedal depressed but there is no resistance. It would seem that the fork is detached from the release bearing somehow. I had noticed that I was having to push my foot pretty much right to the floor in order to change gears prior to this happening.

Sounds like whatever was wearing down and making it difficult finally failed.

Could be so many things - a couple of which

1. Pivot ball has pushed through the arm due to fatigue
2. Arm has fractured at the pivot.

Could be the fingers on the clutch diaphragm have broken/collapsed.
Initially just a couple of finger may have broken.
However, there would be some noise when you push the pedal if the diaphragm is badly damaged.

I have come to the conclusion it's probably one of the above. Regardless, as it's not the cable looks like I have to take half the car apart to get to it. So will plan on doing other jobs while I'm in there like rear crank oil seal ect
