RV8 Timing Covers

It looks like the 'intermediate' timing covers are in short supply...

Is it possible to modify a later GEMS/THOR type cover so that it will work with the earlier type steel sump and pickup pipe located at the middle of the block?

I don't need the distributor drive and don't seem to be able to find the right type of cover. Any helpful advice appreciated.

It is true that the GEMS / Thor covers don't fit the earlier sump.

Can you not use the GEMS or Thor sump and oil pickup?

I'm pretty sure - the older style steel sump is not as deep as the later (P38?) type. In the later versions the oil pickup runs from the front of the engine to the centre of the sump.

The old style Range Rover sump is pretty deep.
Here is a comparison between Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38 sumps:

Sorry Chris - should have used a different word to 'deep'.

The P38 sump hangs a lot lower than the earlier version - not usable in a TVR as it would make contact with most moderate speed bumps.

Looks as if the front part is different to accommodate the later style of timing cover also.
