Exhaust restrictor valve.

My SD1 has a Rimmer big bore SS exhaust, which is a bit noisy at cruise. Would be nice to have an electrically operated valve to make it less noisy when needed. A sort of restrictor valve which would ideally fit in the tail pipe section, which is easy to remove and fit one to.

All my Googling has found are bypass valves designed to route things past a silencer, etc. A sort of Y piece. Did find a U tube video showing the effect I needed, but not a UK supplier.

Far too much work. :D What I'm after is a valve which varies the size of the pipe in the tail pipe. I know making that smaller drops the noise level.

Les work than you think Dave??
But you would have to adapt the exhaust pipe with flanges to bolt one of these in line ;)

Have a tinker with making temp restrictors to fit in the tail pipe. When you have one the right size to make it quiet enough you will know the free area of the restrictor bore.

Then a bit of paper and a pencil will allow you to do some surface area calcs so you know how much to trim off each side of the butterfly in the electric valve? Valve open = full bore. Valve closed = restriction ;)

These valves will motor round and round so when operating it you will have to use your ear to get the sound you want :)

I blought a pir of these back in 2007 andf they were double that price. I had no room to fit them under the MGB so I sold them on. They went quickly. I seem to remember the UK supplier had an address like the Foundry works or similar?
