setting cam timing with vernier

hi guys, as part of my rebuild i bought a vernier timing set up. below is the spec of my cam, so just slightly confused and hoping someone can confirm ive done it right.
im assuming the intake centre line of 104 deg is the point of max lift? and this is a symetrical cam.

i was getting confused in the diagram below as you are actually rotating the engine clockwise (opposite to whats shown in pic)

If it way a symmetrical cam the inlet max would be 114 degrees not 104 degrees.

I don't understand why you think the diagram shows anti clockwise??

You forgot the -10 to give you the degree's from TDC which is the lobe centre in relation to the crank. 114 is the centre of the duration not where it needs to be set.

Lobe centre from TDC = Duration /2 less inlet opening point

248 / 2 = 114 less 10 = 104 ATDC

10 degrees retarded may be a step too far ;)
