Anybody know anything about Valeo immobiliser/alarm remotes?

I need to tap into the collective knowledge bank....
I bought a replacement fob innards for my Disco2 from a guy on Flea-bay and when I got around to programming it, I see that the 6 digit code that is on the back of the IC is printed off center and the second last digit is obscured and the last digit is missing altogether, so, is there a way of extracting the code from the remote via a scanner or is it a case of tough luck, you wasted the money, move on?
