Hall effect CPS

Does anyone know of an after market supplier of a hall effect crank sensor, due to the nature of my set up I think the VR sensor is struggling at times and would like to change to a Hall effect as that should be much more stable.

Have you done a tooth/trigger log with MS? That should show any problems you might have with your trigger.
The VR input on MS converts the sensor output into more or less what you'd get from a hall one. But does need to be correctly adjusted.
Snag with hall effect is they have integral electronics, so susceptible to being overheated. Many quote an upper limit of 80C. And even ones fitted by makers as OEM can fail. VR, being basically just a coil of wire, rarely does.
DIYautotune sell hall sensors. They did do a threaded body type which is nice and easy to adjust - but notice it's been out of stock for ages. Not sure who sells them in the UK.

My guess is this is the one DIYautotune sells:-

Cheers Dave much appreciated, trigger looks good when running then next day I get errors and misfires, as its relatively cheap to change I will give it a go. At least i will get a good square wave input then
Just looked again and it states that the output is 0.4V is that right for MS

The Honeywell hall sensor is an open collector design. If you use a pull up resistor, the output will change from near the supply voltage of that pull up resistor to near zero with the state of the sensor.
Google 'open collector' for more info.
As to whether you need a pull up resistor depends on the design of the input you're using. It should be covered in the MS manual.

They don't seem to give any specs - unless I couldn't find them.

Exactly what is the problem ?
There is no reason a VR should struggle unless the trigger wheel has very very poorly defined teeth, or the sensor you are using is not matched for use with that tooth setup.
Hall is generally only better in terms of being less annoyed by interference, but that's more a wiring issue.

Problem well loads really
The MS has always had issues with the trigger inputs, now this think is more down to the fact that the car has 3 engine ECU,s its a Range Rover P38 with all the associated wiring issues that generates

so I want more stable signal source.
And yes myreluctor wheel is not ideally positioned either as it sits right up against the balancer was hoping a Hall sensor might give me a stable signal as it should give the same output voltage at any revs.
Am I chasing shadows ?

I would like to see a scope trace of what's coming out of the sensor before going nuts
Or if you can buy an OEM hall sensor that is designed to run off a similar wheel to what you are using, that would be best.
ie same tooth pitch/depth/width etc

As I said, Tuner Studio has a trigger and tooth logger which will show up any problems, if they exist.
But what are the symptoms? I presume you're not attempting to share a VR sensor with the MS and original ECU?

If he is...VR probably wouldnt enjoy that too much.
Hall, it shouldnt pose a probem

Aha that could be the problem as I am sharing the sensor with 2 ECU's
I will give the Hall sensor a go I think
