Most moving coil meters are basically volt meters.

For a time, I was running my rev counter like this.

Find the 2 wires that attach to the coil of the meter itself. I spliced in a 1k trim pot, and with this, I could adjust the reading displayed at the rev counter.

So my 6cyl rev counter, now read fine with my 8cyl engine.

Although now my new DTA can fire out whatever pulses I tell it to the rev counter, so its back to working as normal.

Or you can get your current rev counter recalibrated for 8 cylinders. Just look in the kit carmags or suminc for a firm that will do it. That way it will save you buying an SD1 guage so your guages will match.

I did the same as Stevie advised on my Capri Rev counter and it worked just fine.

Mk3 (facelift) and 4 cortina rev counters are adjustable, theres a pot inside. Maybe you could use a cortina rev counter?

Mk5 cortina rev counters are not adjustable, they did away with the pot and just put a resistor in, spose you could put a pot in if you cant get hold of a mk3 or 4 one.

Good point, thats worth checking.

I actually bough a couple of Granada Instrument clusters off ebay. Oddly, the newer ones which were different to mine, had the pot, but my older ona had a ship inside. So I had to to the cut job to the actual moving coil itself.

hi guys, found a MK2 granada 2.8(non injection) in my local scrapyard today. the rev counter has the adjustment pot, fits straight in the capri dash cluster & even the needle matches & is the same colour.Wont be able to try it for a while as i'm quite early on in the project
