Hi

I am working on fitting a Rover 4.2 V8 from a Range Rover Classic into a Series Land Rover - doing this with a conversion kit which provides an adapter ring to mount the Engine and Series Gearbox, some new engine mounts, Machined Spigot Bush, Release Bearing extender, and a block to shift the angle of the oil filter away from the Landie front cross member.

What's just come out is that with the 4.2 having already an angled oil filter plus piping and block for the factory oil cooler in the Classic radiator, I don't need the adapter block, but I need to pipe in an aftermarket oil cooler as I'm not using the RRC Radiator.

If I can fit an oil cooler to the factory housing above the oil cooler I'm home and dry - has anyone done this or know of any kits that fit the standard oil filter housing?

Not looking to use a remote filter kit - that's the end stop - just pipe an oil cooler in to replace the RRc one.

Any advice appreciated!

I think that the threads in the engine are M18 (a bit unusual, but I think Rover used them a lot).

Probably a BSP thread on an oil cooler.

I would whiz into Merlin Motorsport and see what they can do. I bought my oil cooler and pipes and adapters from them. I believe I had them make me pipes to length.

I have the housing off and the hose lengths, so it'll be easiest to drop into Merlin Motorsport and see what they can make up (just 10 minutes away).

I was hoping to use standard parts but will use what they can provide.

Do you mind me asking where you bought the series conversion kit. It seems like a pretty comprehensive list of parts. I'm doing similar with an earlier Range Rover Classic 3.5 and am slowly collecting the parts. Have bought the main adapter casting but am resigned to the fact that it will probably be quicker and easier to buy all the other parts as a kit as they seem to come up so rarely on eBay.

MCK10 for a Rover V8 going onto a Series transmission. They do loads of kits for many vehicles and engines.

Very good kit, they tailored it for my exact engine and gearbox and it's a lovely box to open and start using, all well made.

The man I dealt with, Ross, was very knowledgable and these guys make the kits themselves - I would expect they would happily supply you with the bit you need to complete.

Oil cooler - sorted in one visit - new pipes and smaller cooler fitting straight into the original take off housing between the pump and filter, even have a thermostat for the oil, how posh!
