Hi,
Nothing major at fault, but something isn’t correct I’m sure of it. Before I start spending buckets of cash on wrong components I’d thought id’ ask the question.

I can leave the Disco for a couple of weeks, put the key in & starts with a couple of seconds no issues.

Leave it over night, key in crank for 3 sec’s won’t fire, crank again for another 3 sec’s, starts up no problems.

Runs brilliant, no idle issues, fuel economy is to be expected.

Engine standard, a 3.9 EFI 14 CUX, Tornado chip, ignition is all Lucas with Bosch coil, NGK plugs etc.

Found this link and gave it a read, but the problem is cannot get the ignition module here in the UK.

I would guess it is damp in the ignition somewhere in the system condensing out of the air overnight, or you have a semi dry/joint in the ECU somewhere. I think you will never find it, may be wrong. I think you would want to be looking at coating everything in ignition in a non oil based version of WD40 (you want the silicon fluro whatever stuff) that repels water.
You could stick a sump heater in it and plug it in every night.
Buy a Toyota,
Live with it, after all it starts second time and that is pretty good for a Rover.

what happens if you crank it for longer than 3 seconds at a time?
i have to say i havent timed how long i crank mine for, but 3 seconds seems a bit short to me?

Toyota that's funny, couldn't afford the servicing lol

If i let it go catches about 9 secs, the only reason i let it crank in short bursts, i read somewhere these LR (bosch) starter motors aren't the best at long cranks.

is the fuel pump priming the system when you switch it on initially? Stick an ear near the fuel tank and get someone to switch on the ignition does the pump start and run for about a second and a half? there is a relay that controls this on the relay board, if it is not working it can make it hard to start.

Funny enough, the father-in-law has a Toyota RAV4 (2.2l). 2008. It has just had a brand new engine at 60K, courtesy of Toyota.
Our Auris has the same (ish) engine, and the same fault is likely. It's too old to get a free engine..........

I was thinking of replacing it with an SD1 V8. Better the devil you know eh!!
