so I've seen other recent posts about breather connections to the plenum, which makes me wonder about my setup....

The 4.6 has a breather from each rocker cover, one goes in the stepper motor area, and the other in to the bottom on my plenum trumpet base...

I've read that one should allow air in, and the other out, so why do both the 4.6 ones both go in the engine...

So my engine is very lumpy and I thought I would disconnect the one that goes in to the plenum base.....and wow its like a new engine....but why does this affect the engine running so much???..

If I disconnect this breather pipe permanently....what shall I do with it?

How close is your breather system to standard GEMS?

I've kept it the same....although I use the act carbon plenum, the breathers are the same as standard gems engine.
It just runs loads better with the plenum one disconnected....
Engine always seams lumpy, until it disconnected the other breather...
Just wondering if I can attach a filter type breather to it and leave the otherside for the stepper motor.

If I am thinking right, the breather system effectively lets unmetered air into the inlet system.
On that basis, it sounds like too much air is getting drawn in. So maybe a leak somewhere?

Have you got a copy of the Land Rover RAVE CD?, it has a very useful page which describes exactly how the breather system should work.

been reading the rave documents about the breather system....

looks like I am missing the oil/vapour separator from the rocker cover pipe....but don't think this will make any difference in the running...

Engine runs much better with this pipe disconnected, but too much oil vapour comes from the pipe to leave it this way or route it somewhere else...

And the don't want to really go against how its been designed....

So just going to put it back and put up with it.
