Have you got the correct coil?

Chris.

I've got the high power illumination coil that came with the ignition kit
Could a fallty rev counter kill coils ???

Is 'illumination' a variation of 'lumenition', which is renowned for being crap?

What do you mean by points free - Lumenition covers a few types - The Optical trigger type - which I have personally never had any issues with and the more recent "Magnetronic" electronic points type?

When my car had a dizzy, it went through a bunch of coils/ignition amps because the regulator on the alternator was shot and it was cranking out too many volts.

Mounting the coil away from heat sources helps, I've seen coils mounted direct on the block, and UPSIDE DOWN so all the oil leaks out!

Assuming it's not just heat killing the coils, it could be too much current caused by too high voltage ie incorrect coil designed for ballast working but without the resistor, or wrong dwell angle ( some electronic ignitions are just transistor assisted points), .

When one of your coils fail, does it go open circuit on the lt side? Or how else has it failed?, ht side?,
