Can anyone tell me if a cork gasket is available for a steel 4.6 Rover sump.
The only gasket I can find is a rubber one for use with an aluminium sump which does not seal well at the rear of the steel sump.
I know that Rover use a mastic gasket sealer on steel 4.6 sumps but I would prefer to use a gasket if available.

I've never found one. Each time I've tried to order one, I've ended up with the rubber one for the aluminium sump!

As a bit of a side question, when I took the sump off my 3.9 today found it had been (badly) sealed with black mastic stuff... Now I reckon this is from a previous owner as it was badly fitted, thick round the corners and little on the straights and was wondering if it was standard for steel sumps?

A 3.9 steel sump would normally have a cork gasket and a localised dop of mastic is put where the block meets the timing cover and the rear main bearing caps. The Gems steel 4.6 sump differs at the front ( 1 extra bolt ) and it seems that no cork gasket is available for this.
