Exhaust manifolds - SBC into a defender

Hi there guys

Just this next few weeks swapping my rover with SBC using a simple conversion plate and engine mount adapters. Am now thinking about exhaust headers.

I was wondering if anybody had any experience over which full length headers fit easily inside the defender rail chassis??? Will go for shorties if strapped - but need at least 1 3/4 inch to deal with the amount of gas the engine will produce (383 with solid roller cam - 255 degrees - ITBs - 220cc heads - 300 shot of NOS). Just wondered what has been fitted to SBCs in defenders before???

Cheers guys

Dave

Based on my range rover classic experience, Shorty blog huggers foul the front diff, well rather they route horribly.

these are the block huggers, which I had to sell on:

My chevy came out of a 1979 blazer and with a pair of 4-1 headers - they looked massive and I assumed they wouldn't fit, but imagine my surprise when they bolted straight on and cleared the chassis rails perfectly.
I've told at least one other person who had an overfinch 5.7 which needed new headers and gave the same info and they also fitted.

These are the 79 blazer headers, I think they were headman headers:

If you want to take a look at them, they are in my garage here in Newport Pagnell. I wont sell them though - as they are handy to keep if I ever remove the turbos.

Thanks so much Elliot mate - so perhaps I should try a set of full size after all! Think a 1 3/4 is the aim at least.

Cheers

Just put the calipers on them, 1.5" primaries going into 3" collectors.
