Hi Guys, knocking some ideas about now the pops back on the road and was thinking of going back to injection but retaining the look of a carb  Edelbrock do an nice number but comes as a package with tablet, wiring etc Seeing as it doesn't control ignition and I already have a megajolt, I'd like to run it all from my laptop. Thouhgts ? ideas ?

Looks similar to the autonomics throttle body I have fitted on the Dakar. It came with cast bosses to mount the injectors into (I didn't use them).

Not sure they are around any longer - Bill Shurvinton (megasquirt guy) used to sell them in the UK

You can buy just throttle bodies like that.

Depending how much work you want to do, might be more cost effective ?

As you already have a 36-1 for the MJ, shouldnt be too hard to fit most any aftermarket ecu to control things and run sparks and fuel

Or if using port injection

Thanks Eliot and Stevie, sort of thing I was looking at :) putting a megasquirt on with fuel only would be the easiest way to run the EZ efi set up I would think ?

Make more sense to use the MS for both and flog the MegaJolt?

I'm not sure if injection via a throttle body is worth the bother over a decently set up carb? Especially since port injection is easy and cheap with an RV8. But I did get the point about wanting it to look like a carb.

Fuel injection regardless of where you inject gives total control over fuelling from a nice comfy seat in the car.

The same cannot be said for a carb of any kind.

But using a single computer for both would make more sense than two completely separate computers.

Using an O2 sensor to control the fuelling in a closed loop set up has got to be better than a carb any day ! As for keeping the fuel and spark on the megajolt is neither here nor there, there's no tie in between them ?

Megajolt cannot do fuel.

I should have said I was replying too Dave EFI, I'm not bothered about selling the megajolt :)

Not so much thinking about the money, but the extra work in what amounts to rigging up two ECUs when one can do everything.

Good point, I'm sure I would consider it at a later date !

Hi
I read a test on 6 of these 4 barrel closed loop set up on Carcraft a few months ago, they are easy to fit, couple of hours, come loaded with the right maps to start your engine and all the set ups correctly set for the engine and they really do self tune. They will be fitted and run the engine in about a day and tuned in about 200 miles. If you want to have fuel injection to run you engine and forget about it at the end of a week end then they are ideal however there is very little to fiddle with. If you want a new hobby of "how to get EFI working on my car get magasquirt there is a lot to keep you occupied over many weekends finding the right maps to get it started, setting up the VR sensor, calibrating all the sensors sorting out the best earthing for the sensors, getting all the tables filled out. . . all of it without a proper manual consistent or wiring diagram and lots of highly contradictory advise of the internet.
New hobby by Megasquirt
running car edlebrock
Best regards
Mike

I'd agree the documentation for MS is a bit scattered as like a lot of software the instructions aren't totally rewritten when a new version comes out. However, this is easily forgiven since you don't pay for new software.

But this is being addressed by James and you can get the draft document here:-

http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/downloads.html

If there are no issues with setting and wiring sensors it must mean they supply the required wiring harness complete and with sensors, and supply the wideband sensor.

Is it this article?

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ho ... on_any_v8/

If so, it was hardly a DIY install.
