hi could anyone tell me what i need to swap carbs for efi on my rover v8, i know it started life as a vittese 3.5 ,the guy that built the engine tells me i need a 3.9 efi system. thanks..

high pressure fuel pump
air flow meter
ecu
wiring loom
inlet manifold with plenum n bits on it
new valley gasket and end rubber bits


u need to choose between flapper and hotwire injection,hotwire being the better of the two,

Yup, as markmills2000uk suggests, a bolt-on 3.9 EFI system - intake manifold up, modify exhaust to use an O2 sensor, plus the wiring and ecu - is probably the easiest option. A tunable ECU is nice, but a factory system will get you going with minimum fuss.

Don't forget the fuel system (either high pressure pump, swirl pot, etc or retrofit a tank with an in-tank pump) and the high pressure lines, including a return line to the tank.

The Rover Carb to EFI conversion is a fairly easy and common swap.

yes it is very easy i have done a flapper and a hotwire system now,doesnt take long

Hi to all,when u take inlet manifold off u will need to file out small amount in inlet port to allow for injector,i had to do this on my 3.5(SD1) it might be best to remove the heads so no swarf gets into the combustion chamber,i used a 3.9 Efi Cam and skimmed the block and Heads to increase C/R then fitted a composite gasket to bring it back down a little again,this set up ran really well when raced against other motors on 3.9 and 4.0 V8,

if his engine did start out life as a vittese as he said, i would have thought the heads would already have the notch in,unless the heads have been changed,but that is something he will need to check when he takes the inlet manifold off,or you might be able to tell from the numbers stamped on the head under the rockers

hi all thanks for the info, so i think i am looking for small notches in the inlet port's, where abouts and how big are they.
what is hotwire and is it better and anyone got one for sale?

Notches are in the very top/middle of the inlet ports of the heads right at the gasket face. They look like they have been cut with a smallish round file which funny enough is what you would use to make them.
Hotwire is the way the system uses to measure the amount of air going into the engine. Definitely the system to go for as opposed the the flapper.
If you hadn't fell asleep you could have had the one in the link bellow which wasn't a bad price but its sold now.

well i have looked and no notches but they have both got ERC0216 on them so i guess sd1 not vittesse, so guy's how big are these notches again

Hi again,just been out to garage to look at my 4.6 heads which are going on my 3.5 the notches are not central but are left /left /right /right as you look at the heads with valve springs down, if any can tell me how to post pics on here i will take a pic and post it on for you,

i've also been reading about speed sensor on the gearbox pus an o2 sensor in the exhaust do i need to have these as i am fitting the efi to a comp safari car although it is road legal..and yes i would like to see some pic's of these darn notches cheers..

you dont have to have them just make sure t=you have the green wire resistor inline so the ecu knows you have no cat and o2 sensor,u dont have to have the speed sensor either,although it would run better with them on

any idea where the speed sensor would be situated on the gearbox and would an o2 sensor on the y part of the exhaust be ok
