Modifying the Rover V8 inlet manifold for a Ford carb?

I'm getting to the stage of fitting an inlet manifold and carb for my MGB GT Rover V8 conversion. I was planning on getting a Edelbrock inlet manifold along with an Edelbrock 390 or 500cfm 4 barrel carb.

However, I've read a small bit on, and been told that if I have my original rover V8 SU inlet manifold and get the SU mounts cut off, I can weld a plate onto the top and fit a 2 barrel carb from a Ford Capri V6 motor with similar results.. The issue is U can't find much online about it.

Has anyone done this inlet configuration or know someone who has?

Many thanks.

If you look way back to the start of this forum you should find what your looking to do. Similar results to a 390 or 500, no you won't get that but it depends on what your looking for. You will get similar to the SU carbs maybe. The 38 DGAS isn't a very big carb but it will give you a low down torque engine. Getting it jetted right could take a bit of messing about with as well.
It's more common to machine the stock manifold and fit a 4 barrel to it. The stock manifold is actually pretty good.

Great, thank you for that :) If the four barrel is better I have no issues going with that. The money I can save by modifying my manifold over buying new means I can splash out on one. I'll go have a look for that thread.

This was done a lot here in the 1980s and 90s, Rover 3.5 and P76 inlet manifolds were cut down to accept 2 barrel carbs, usually Holley 350s I seem to recall, many of which went into Range Rovers.

I couldn't find any threads on here. Do you have any more info Rob? I can't find much at present, and in fact some have said the std manifold doesnt flow that well anyway.

I think I'm going to buy the Edelbrock performance manifold just to get the engine finished, and I can always research and test this other manifold when I've modified it at a later time.

Hi what was the outcome in the end did you machine a rover v8 manifold or did you buy one only om thinking of doing the same
