Race Engine Build

Hi All,

Going to start building up a spare race engine, my first question is.....

I have purchased an interim block, who is best to use to have the bosses drilled for the x-bolts? I'm happy to have my usual guy do the liners and line honing etc but assume getting the holes in the right place may not be easy if you've not done it before?

It depends where you are really. Turners, JE Engineersing (not John eales as he has no real kit - all farmed out), David Knight although a few freinds of mine have not had great work from that workshop - not to be negative as I have never used his services - but a few freinds were not very impressed with some aspects), Few in Rugby and Coventry etc.

Great, thanks for that...

Next question - What is the lightest piston/rod combo available. Currently looking at the 6" chevy rod with 305 pistons which I believe are a straight fit to the rods - I understand that the rods need some machining to the big end.

This being the case, there appears no difference in weight between the crower lightweight steel rods (rated 500bhp) and the titanium rods??? Both seem to weigh around 495g

I assume the pistons will need to be purchased as flat tops and the valve cut-outs machined into them although I can't seem to find what the crown thickness of the KB flat top pistons are to see of they are suitable or not!

John Ealse ...JE Developments has not kit!!?? looked to have a shop full to me :?
