MGB V8 Clutch bleeding probs

Hi all

This car seems to be fighting us at the moment! Got the engine going and now can't bleed the clutch!!

We've got an MGB V8 clutch cylinder and a SD1 slave cylinder, both of which are new (including the pipework).

We're having real problems getting pressure on the system ... has anyone got any tips on helping to get the air out and getting some pressure on the system?

Thanks for your response ... yes, it is a conversion!

Our slave cylinder mounts on the bell housing at a 45 degree angle, so we have the flexi pipe going in the top with the bleed nipple fractionally under this as it is on the angle. Is this correct, or do we need to change it?

Is this an original fitment system as it left the factory, or is it a custom set up put in as part of a conversion to make a 'BV8? (I suspect the latter but confirmation would be good)
My first thing to check is where is the bleed nipple at the highsest point? if not then you will always have great difficulty getting air out and pressure up. further you really want the whole system to form a gradual rise to the toward the bleed nipple no local highs and lows, difficult to do but really the only way to avoid air getting trapped!
Once you have sorted out this one have a read of the various postings on Rover V8 clutch woes in this part of the forum, the general explanation is that the slave cylinder is not operating in it's correct range because of a combination of flywheel/clutch arm, cover plate release bearing and push rod have been used that were never intended to work together. the simplest solution is to get the flywheel/ presser plate bell housing et all from the same car then the only variable is the master cylinder. Otherwise you will be in for a lot of measuring up and swapping of release bearings and push rode to get something that will work (just about!)
