Can this be removed from the rocker cover?

I think this is screwed into the rocker cover, but I can't get it to shift. Before I start drilling holes in it to put a bar through it, I'd like to confirm it will actually come out.

Regards,
Dave

Good question, the plastic version from a P38 definitely does. So i guess that one should. All the covers of that pattern I've got/had have a screw thread in them so I would have thought that yours is just 'gummed' up.
Don't quote me on it!
Mike  :?

YES!!
They unscrew.
Warm it up with a blowlamp until the oil and crud starts to burn off. Chuck a bit of plus gas onto the threads on the underside and let it soak for a few hours.

Let it cool and get some good grips or stillsons on it. They can be a bugger to get off. But they do screw out.

Hi all,
Sorry to butt in but would the same part come adrift by unscrewing it on a chrome plated cover? The chrome is about bugged anyway, they have more pits than the coal board.
Thanks ....Mike

Don't see why not (presuming it's a chrome plated standard cover rather than a custom casting). Chrome is wafter-thin so it doesn't have any strength.

Chris.

It seemed to have some sort of sealant in the thread, but a good long blast with the blow torch and a bigger tool to grip it got it out.

Thanks,
Dave

Having seen how much Rimmer Bros charge for that part, I'm glad I didn't damage it now :)
