hi guys,

i could really do with getting the thermostat housing with the straight outlet for the westy, but the dont come with the outlet for the bypass pipe.

Do i really need to run the bypass?

You either need the thermostat bypass, or the heater circuit permanently hot. This is the only way water can circulate until the 'stat is open.

ah, ok, i dont have a heater in the car lol so that option is out!

What about a thermostat with a couple of holes drilled around the edges?

Or no thermostat at all(just knock out the centre) as I am sure the engine and rad will get hot pretty quickly in a Westie!

If he doesn't have a heater could he not simply have a hose from the pump outlet back to where the heater would enter the engine to complete the circuit and solve his problem that way?

Possibly but it could also create a circuit with less resistance than through the radiator and thus all the water would bypass and the engine end up cooking itself

im assuming nobody makes these straight outlets with a bypass?

It should be quite easy to modify the housing, either drill and tap it, or if you know someone who can weld ali just weld on an ali tube.

I'm using a straight out stat housing and my hotwire manifold has an outlet just under it which is T'd into the bottom hose from the rad. I'm guessing that outlet on the manifold is normally for the heater circuit. It's about 19mm which I've reduced to 16mm.
