Need a new sump

I have a 1979 pre-serp RV8 in my westfield. I have bottomed it out to the point that the sump is cracked and leaking. Which Rover V8 sumps will fit my engine? Will any of the Discovery ones fit?

I need cheap ones as they seem to be a consumable in low ride cars.

Thanks in advance.

The sumps from all RV8's which have a dizzy are the same mounting flange although there are several shapes to the sump pan.

The oil pick up pipe varies depending on the sump and early ones (P5, P6, SD1 have a pick up with a large gauze whereas the later 3.9 type have a smaller internal gauze. You should use the matching pickup pipe.

3.9 sumps have a side drain plug which in a low car can hit the ground and become undone. I used to weld on a small protection shield.

Sumps that wont fit are from the 4.0 & 4.6 non dizzy engines as the front of the mounting flange is a different shape and has an extra bolt hole.

Denis

Land Rover ones have a longer but shallower sump than SD1 type ones, but they may not clear your cross member if there is one there.

I realise it is not exactly on topic - but have purchased a locost/7/Westfield chassis, delivered today, and gonna put my RV8 with 300 heads in it- but told that v8s in these light cars can be difficult to put the power down, what spec are you running. And how does it run..

Why dont you get the sump repaired and get the repairer to add on a sheet of 2mm or 3mm plate to the bottom of the pan by puddle welding or brazing.

This will give you a reinforced skid plate on the bottom of the sump :)

I fitted a baffled trap door sump to my westfield some years back now, cost about £350 back then but worth every penny in a westfield seight.....

No loss of oil while cornering, and much higher and bigger capacity about 7.9l of oil.....

I was forever denting the sd1 one I had on normal roads....only thing low enough now is the gearbox hoop.

most v8 places do them...but malfab is your best bet.
