Hi
Can someone give me an idea about what sort of price I should be asking for the following:

Tuned turnkey engine including gearbox. Ready to install and fire up.

Rover 3.5 V8 Engine (SD1)
Recon LT77 gearbox and Bellhousing
V8 Developements Stage 3 big valve heads
Viper Hurricane Cam
Crane "High Rev" Lifters
Cloyes "True Roller" Duplex timing Chain
Edelbrock Performer Manifold
Holley 390 Carb
High torque starter motor
New Clutch\cover
New Alternator
Stainless steel Exhaust Manifolds (Pair) if required.
Plus lots lots more.
Only 3000 miles at the moment, and still in my Gardner Douglas Cobra.

Built by myself but am now building another engine.

Ball park figure would be helpful as I have no real idea where to start.

Thanks

Martin

Well, as always ti will depend on what people are prepared to pay and who is looking for such an engine at any given time. My advice, is when you do advertise it stick "TVR" in the title it'll get you more beer tokens ;-)

However, 5 months ago I sold my LT77 & RWD bellhousing for £285.
My stage 3 heads went for about £500 on their own.

Hi
I work on the basis of . . add up the cost of all the bits you bought and the machining add £300 for assembly and start there.
is it just finished and un started? . . . Yes then try and ask for that.
No it has sat in the garage for a year, take off 25%
No it has stood around for 2 years take off another 25%
No I have fitted it to a car and started it. . . then half that and ask that much.
Is it still in the car and can be heard running? if yes add 15% to the calculated price so far.
For every subsequent year it has had since assembly take off another 10%
For every 1000 miles since first starting take off 10%
You will see that it's value drops quite rapidly.
It can also quite quickly get to the stage where parting it out is the best way of getting the most money for the engine.
Best regards
Mike

Based on what you have put into the build according to your list. You must have about £2600 in parts without labour for yourself.

I think you would need show the engine running and driving to prospective buyers to get anywhere near your money back.

If its a sweet running engine it would be a shame to part it out as the right buyer could pull your arm off for a fully working almost new engine as a drop in power plant.

I think I would insist on the buyer coming to have a ride in the car and also invite them to do an inspection including compression testing if they wanted to. You may need to put the auction up for a few weeks to give folk time to come and try. And put yourself out a bit to do the demo runs if you want to get as much as possible.

Advertise it as TVR / MGB V8 / Hotrod V8 / Rover V8 conversion.

The RV8 / LT77 combo is sought after by MGB folk wanting to do a conversion. A fully tuned and running powerplant for about £1700 - £2000 could get some attention.

If you decide to part it out it may take a while but you may get 60-70% or more back on your investment ??

Sounds like a nice little setup :)

Decide what you will accept and make that your starting price.
