Hi guys, I'm Luke, I'm building a subaru legacy based back halved doorslammer drag car, I'm looking for help and info on our engine and maybe a little something different to the they are rubbish comments.
We are building the car to race for a kids charity so we are on a stupidly tight budget, I'm ok at fabrication etc so that's no problem and I have a plan but I'm tired of being told by people the engine we have is shite.
We have an old range rover v8, and a reasonable knowledge of engines but not on rover v8, I'm a subaru man but I love the sound v8's make .
Please give your honest opinion on the plan, : concrete fill the block for strength, use its existing pistons and rods as budget won't allow anything more, it's a 3.5 with 8.25 cr, we plan to add a single t70 turbo and external waste gate , port the heads, custom built inlet manifold with quadrajet 4 bbl carb, large front mounted intercooler, fuel pressure regulator, and run the engine on methanol to avoid det and lower the temps, I've been told 6psi is the max boost we can run on it.

My original 3500 managed low 12's on the 1/4 mile in my MGB with a 150 shot of nitrous. It was also an 8:1 CR engine. But i think i was running on the ragged edge. However, if you can ease the boost in gently and get it rolling the stresses diminish quickly.
A lot depends on the weight of the car as you know.

Perry

Cheers perry that's fantastic news mate, you've made me relax about it, the car is going to lose weight hugely, the whole rear floor etc from the centre of the car back will be dumped in exchange for alli sheet , the front also will be chopped down loads with tube frame. No interior, only a grp seat. The rear doors will be single skinned etc so it's gonna lose weight. Cheers again perry
