SD1 LT77 onto 3.9

Hi Guys

I have a Disco 3.9 motor (from an auto) and an SD1 LT77 Gearbox, flywheel etc.

Will the SD1 bits mate up to the 3.9 okay? I've read on here about differences between the SD1 and 3.9 setups but it seems to relate mostly to the flywheel and clutch.

Second question is. The 3.9 is going to be a hot motor and I've heard that the 3.9 manual had a larger clutch than the SD1? If I source a 3.9 flywheel and clutch gear, will it mate okay with the SD1 gearbox? Would it be worth doing this?

I know that there are better boxes to use but I have two LT77's and will be reconditioning one to use with this motor as I'm unlikely to be able to afford something stronger (My brother is an engineer and ex-gearbox mechanic who can help with the labour). I'm hoping that by not being a silly bugger the box will last okay.

Thanks
Cam

Depends what it is going into?

Does the LT77 come with the SD1 V8 bellhousing?

The SD1 'bits' will mount up no problem, if you are going rwd. Not sure on the flywheel/cluch siuation if you are wanting 4x4 though.

SD1 manual clutch is 9.5", 4x4 manual clutch is 10.5" I don't think the latter will fit within a SD1 Bellhousing if I remember correctly

Sd1 manual bellhousing is shorter in depth than a 4x4 so the primary shaft LT77 box on a Sd1 is shorter than a 4x4 box (and it mates to the transferbox)

Thanks for the replies. It's going into a Triumph so will be RWD.

The box is all SD1 including the bell housing and flywheel.

So there were no RWD cars that used the 10.5" clutch? Would I be best to use the parts I have and simply get a decent clutch kit?

Thanks

There are heavy duty options available for the std SD1 9 1/2 inch clutch plate, a few people on here are using H duty clutches with larger capacity Rover V8's, I'm sure one of them will post.........

Sounds good. I think i'll keep the gear I have then and go for a decent clutch kit. Maybe also a lighter flywheel if I have funds after everything else has been purchased.
