I would suspect it is part of an airhandler unit for an airconditioning system/ industrial production line of some form, the output fitting says industrial plumbing to me, not automotive inlet manifold remember these things are used for shifting all sorts of dry fluids as well as air such as sugar and flower.
A proper Plumber will be along soon and will probably be able to tell us, won't you Perry
Best regards

Its just an air pump. Can be used as a blower or vac pump. Seen similar things in many production plants doing all sorts of jobs. Hadron in gloucester do units that look very similar. Hadron could possibly advise?
I guess it could be made into a blower for an engine, but the ones I've seen tend to be driven by motors doing 1400 - 2800 rpm.?

According to the listing it's made by George Godfrey & Partners and a quick Goo-goo search reveals they were
"Manufacturers of aircraft air conditioning and pressurising equipment, pneumatic control equipment, special ground equipment for cooling aircraft and guided missiles. Pressure testing equipment. "
They later sold their rights to Hadron Engineering who specialise in blowers.

Think Godfrey and Marshall blowers are VSCC elligible unit/design, that's probably why it went for a high price. As the only alternative for prewar vintage racers who want a decent sized blower is to have one made to pattern (i.e mega-bucks!)
