It was service time a few months ago my usual supplier ran out of VR 1 20 / 50, my only other option was to use Castrol Edge 20w 60, must say been impressed with the oil, not the cheapest on the market but as crazy as it seems, my oils leaks seem to have slowed over the course of 3,000k's.
After a chat or too over a pint i've learnt that it best to drop the sump ASAP and replace with a mineral oil, for the life of the rebuild its been on VR 1 20 . 50.
My question how good is Edge in the Rover V8

Hi
I don't see why running 20/60 would be an issue. . . Ok it is hot climate oil, but even in our lousy summer at worst it will cost you 5 or 6 BHP, at least it won't run for the sump they way thin oils do and leave your bearings on the edge of dry when you start up. I would just wait for the next oil change and drop in 20/50 then, synthetic is nice, especially on a recent rebuild, of if you thrash it hard from start up but bog stock 20 50 mineral is fine also, ust don't go thin if it has a cam driven oil pump.
Best regards
Mike
