Pressure in Crankcase

Following on from my previous post I've been reading past threads about Crank seals and noticed in one thread it said about the positioning of the breather pipes. Before I had the work done I had one pipe going from the rocker cover to the air filter and the other pipe from the PCV to the vacum on the carb/inlet manifold (it's an edlebrock carb) as per set up instructions. The mechanic said this was incorrect and had the pipe from the pcv going to fresh air, is this correct or could this have caused pressure in the crank and blown the seal?

The PCV valve must be connected to a vacuum point on the inlet manifold.
Without vacuum the valve will effectively shut and will not allow sufficient air flow through it and crankcase pressure will not be released.

I'd get a new mechanic

Cheers for that, I won't be using a mechanic again, 2nd time of using a mechanic since getting this car (5 years ago) and 2nd time of poor workmanship and a large bill.

The first foray into home repairing a car can be daunting, but if you are methodical and detailed in your approach you will soon discover the satisfaction of having it running as a direct result of your efforts.

Oh, and there will be lots of cursing, frustration and skinned knuckles in between, but that is part of the allure....
