Hi,
At the moment got a Mallory twin point dizzy with there E Spark conversion doing away with the points and a Mallory coil. On my 4.6.
I now want to add a MSD or Mallory Hy-Fire box and bigger coil, was wondering what sort of of system you gents were running ? Or any recommendations ?
Cheers John

I am running a MegaJolt Lite Jr with a flywheel trigger. Mapped on a rolling road. Twin maps, one for LPG, one for petrol.
Far better than a distributor IMHO.
Chris.

I run a programable MSD on my 4.6 lump with a MSD blaster 2 coil. The Lucas dizzy has been heavily modified, most of the internals have been removed, the dizzy runs 'locked up' with an MSD pickup/trigger and the standard Lucas reluctance wheel. The relucatnce wheel has been 'adjusted' in order to reduce spark scatter that you can get with a dizzy system. (Each firing point is exactly 45 degrees apart)
The system made a big improvement over the standard Lucas 'amp on the side' setup that I was running. (Even though that system had been tweaked to run a better advance curve than standard)

Anyone got a decent map for a bog standard Vitesse engine? I've seen lots - all different. They can't all be correct.

Whoops- just realised I haven't run Megajolt for about 9 months! Am running Megasquirt ignition only.

What problems are you actually experiencing?
Fitting mega doody funky blaster coils and all the other related stuff such as 1" ignition leads (I'm exaggerating) is only really making up for the fact that a single coil on a v8 engine doesn't really have enough time to charge at high rpm to give a decent spark.
Whereas something as simple, cheap and ancient as the ford edis wasted spark coil from a 90's escort / sierra will easily produce a fat spark accross a massive gap under moderate boost pressures.

I must be one of the few old school sparkers still left - I have an Opus dizzy with all the gubbins removed - vac removed plates bolted - and the dizzy curved with a spring kit - Sparks provided by the Marmite Lumenition Optronic.
When I get around to it I will go MJ

Hi,
No problem as such, just looking at possability's, like the idea of keeping things old school ish dont want to go fuel injection at the moment.
Just wondered what others are running

Hi Perry,
Thats the sort of set up I am aiming for, with out the retard unit as no blower, good to know the Hyfire will work with my dizzy too.
Cheers John
