Hi guys, I've got an issue with the 3.5 I'm rebuilding

Basicaly all the lash settings on one bank arefairly equal and could be sorted with shims, but the left hand bank is a pain in the arse!! basicaly the majority of them are 60-70 thou, but I have got 3 that are way out..... 30, 40 & 50 though readings..... so obviously this side wouldn't be shimable

now would the difference in readings be down to follower ware (they are flat on the cam interface) or would it be something else??
I have shifted pushrods around a bit and the figures have changed , but the problem bank I can't seam to make the numbers work
Any sujestions?

Have the valves seats been recut?, or the valves ground in? That can account for a fair bit of difference.
If you can't get them all in-spec, then adjustable pushrods are the answer.

check rocker shafts on wear where the rocker sits.
Even the rockers itself can wear out. Have several seen egg rounded on the inside. Easy to spot when its all dismantled.

Got to the bottom of it.... I shifted the followers around to see if it was them or ware some where else..... and result the ware is on the followers and nothing else
so new followers are needed I think

Hi
You can't just change the followers, each one beds to a cam lobe as they are run in, replace one with a new one and the lobe or follower wares very quickly. If you need to change the followers, you have to change the cam aswell.
Best regards

Yea, I know I shouldn't realy put new lifters in with an old cam.... but the long and short of it is, we only do 40 miles in an event (Max 80 miles running a 10 car day) so even if I put new lifters in and they ware out in 5000 miles (would have thought they would last a fair bit longer than that mind?) that would mean it would do 5 years drifting....
To be honest I think the truck would have been past it by then, but if it's still going and the cam/followers ware out, then I'll get a kit and change the lot in one go then

The other thing is, I'm not sure untill I drive it if the engine will have enough go (should do though) so it might get swaped out for a 4.6 or something further down the line, so it's a cheep fix at the moment.
