After some great advice from the forum I've got all 8 firing but its not all good news

When I've tried to balance the su's the r/h carb is drawing a lot more air than the left? I've checked the damper and the butterfly all seem ok, the only way I can seem to get an even run on all 8 is to blank the breather from the rocker top to the R/H carb. Has anybody got any sugestions or is it time to find some replacement carbs?

Hi
there should be some sort of flame trap in the pipe between the rocker cover and the carb that also acts as a restrictor to air flow. got anu holes/ splits in the pipe?
Have you detached the linkages and ballanced the carbs on the end stops for the butterflys? The next stage is to reattache the linkages and check that idle tey are not holding either carb slightly open, finally adjust the linkage stops so the throttle linkage opens both throttles evenly.
best regards

The SU carbs will work perfectly provided you have the breather system on the engine set up correctly.
Did you fit the breather at the rear of the lifter gallery? Let me know if you have because now with both SU carbs drawing additional air from each rocker cover via their respective flame traps, you will now be in a position to balance the air flow.

Disconnect and plug all the emissions stuff on the carbs. Disconnect the throttle linkage between the two carbs.
Just try to get it to idle evenly by adjusting the idle screw on each carb.

Hi Ron,
Yes I fitted a rear crankcase breather which has eliminated the negative preasure but the r/h carb which feeds 5 & 8 will only run right when you blank its breather off! I now suspect that the butterfly is not closing fully as the throttle linkage looks fine, any other thoughts? Thanks Tony
