any one recomend any good heaters for a garage?

my garage is fooking cold,

Wood burning stove from Machine Mart or similar. Burn old pallets and other scavenged wood and it's essentially free to run. Make sure you do a good job on the chimney as smoke and carbon monoxide is not a good combination.

The one below is about £240 inc. VAT from Machine Mart and while expensive to buy against a couple of oil-filled radiators is essentially free to run with scavenged fuel and those electric radiators will cost to run and so will a propane burner. It puts out about 7kW or 24k BTU's. You can also boil a kettle and use a saucepan/frying pan on this one.

I've got an oil-filled rad, maybe there's better ones but it takes a while to heat up and isn't much cop anyway so doesn't get used. The missus has a halogen heater in hers, it's very good, gonna get one for my workshop whch is unheated (apart from the rad). Paint garage has leccy wall heaters, with poly-sheeted ceiling it quickly gets nice and hot in there.

It was on the winter build/ project thread bill, i've got it on now, but i've upgraded the flue ...pmsl, went for a steel pipe as it transfers more heat into the garage, i'll get another pic in a bit

oh and i scavenge all my wood from dead pallets in work and cheap chorcoal after the summer's finished

Like the idea of lining the roof with poly-sheet. may have to do that too,

what type of wall heaters you got in the paint room mate?

The wall heaters I got second-hand from a sparky mate T, they're leccy flat-panel things with timers, is about all I know. Prob not cheap to run but they do a good job.

the cheepest thing to run (apart from the wood burner) is a radiator tapped off the central heating to the house. Very safe and the heat is dry, but if the garage is not attached to the house you will need to insulate the pipes! .
I use an oil filled rad on a timmer switch, but I really am only keeping the chill off the garage. You can get cast iron coal burners designed to keep the chill off a room, they are about 8X10" and 3 foor high off the floor with a 4 inch steel flu (I think they are also used on narrow boats) the idea is you fill them up and empty out the ash about once every 2 weeks they just burn very slowly, open them up and they will chuck our loads of heat but need refilling again after about half a day.
If you can find the space then a wood burner is best, you can also bake potatoes on top of them in foil and warm up tins of curry, In the tin of cause.

I've got a couple of 500W floodlights to light the garage, they give off a fair bit of heat too. Other than that I've also got an old style parafin stove but parafin is bloody expensive these days. Woolie hat and big thick jumper for me. Also worth looking at the floor. Concrete is not the best insulator and will draw heat out through the ground quicker than you can put it in. I've covered my garage floor in old tri-wall packing boxes then put old carpet down on top of that. Keeps me off the concrete when lying down too
