Right!!!! I reckon it's fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P

I hope this post doesn't jinx it

Followed ChrisJC's instructions, took the inlet manifold off, then used the DTI guage (had the head on so took 30mins just to secure the DTI down and through the spark plug hole) got ATDC, checked full lift on no.1 inlet - was hoping it was going to be 1 tooth out so (no.1 inlet that should be around 108degrees or close) would get around 90degrees or 126degrees, but was pretty much bang on 108degrees.

Put the inlet back with a new valley gasket and it was ticking over really smoothly, took her round the block and OOOHH MMY GODDD! it genuinely feels 40-50% faster. I don't know what I did? perhaps the gasket was drawing in air or the plenum was? I stumped to what it could have been, I haven't checked the MPG but I'm guessing it should be better as it's running perfectly. Finally hurray!

Anyway just a BIG thanks to all the replys I've had, cheers chaps! :nw

Will post the MPG figures when I get them.

Any chance of a brief description on how you did that? I spent a few hours devising bad ways to this and then decided to give up until the weather warmed up a bit!

The DTI came with an angle bracket and a 60kg magnetic base (which is no where near 60kg pull), it's hard to get the base to stick to anything as it's mostly alloy, so found a strip of metal, drilled 2 holes in it and mounted to angle bracket to the inner wing (the angle bracket that comes with the DTI has a bolt at the bottom so it's quite easy, just time consuming). The DTI gauge I bought wasn't long enough to go through the spark plug hole and touch the top of the piston so I taped a piece of stiff tube to the probe part, when you put it through make sure it doesn't touch the sides.
