No you can't.

What's the propshaft output on a Bmw gearbox going to hook up to? The output itself will be nearly touching the back panel of the car.

You need to use a FWD transmission so the driveshafts are in line with the hubs.

Why would you want to use anything else? The Audi box is cheap, it fits the Audi V8, there's a bellhousing adapter available for the Bmw V12, it's 6 speed, strong, Quaife do an LSD for it, the output shafts are in the right place, an Mr2 turbo driveshaft bolts to it without mods, the list goes on...

Honestly, why would you use anything else?

You could use a Porsche transaxle at more cost and more fabrication work, or a renault box with again a lot of hassle, but you're just making work for yourself for no reason.... the Audi box fits the Audi V8= no brainer.

You need to do some research into the Audi V8 and Bmw v12 in my opinion.

I think he's scared of the realities of what this will cost !!

Maybe a 1.9tdi engine/box from a Passat might work lol

I thought as much.... well you won't do a conversion like this for anything under £7k even if you do everything yourself, not if you want it to last anyway.

Seriously though if you think an Audi TDI gearbox is too much money at £300 you will never pull this off.

Well, chopping the chassis in half and sticking 11" in it I suppose you can make alot of things fit! Must confess I didn't consider that one as an option with a budget of 1k when the question came up, didn't consder it a DIY option either, silly me!
Best regards

what Audi TDI gearbox do you suggest for the v12 im guessing the higher the litre the better torque it will handle from the v12 bmw 850 i which produces 450 N·m (330 lb·ft) @ 4000 rpm

The Audi V6 is the strongest box they do that will fit with an adapter bellhousing. The adapter is around £600 on its own.

I have read through this thread with interest as i am doing a V8 conversion allbeit on a FWD Cougar  I am not sure what your budget is for the total build but to give you a little idea I have spent £6,000 plus so far on my car and i still have the engine, gearbox and driveshafts to get aswell as an ecu and he wires to create a bespoke loom. Due to the extra torque i have had to upgrade my suspension, front and rear ARB's, I have had to fabricate new mounts ready for the engine and gearbox, I am looking at spending another £3,000 just for the engine, another £1,500 for the gearbox and i still have to price up a quaiffe diff. All in all I have set myself a budget of £20,000 and think it will be hard to keep inside that.

Best of luck with your build, just dont think its a simple case of swapping the engine and gearbox over else your build will bite you
