now that is nutty Eliot.
Must stop reading this thread since I am now the proud owner of a classic rangy
EDIT: just seen this: search.ebay.com/310021251658
That would do it

You could get a 455 with more bhp and way more torque for a fraction of the price.
Megasquirt it and it'll still cost far less than that
Also the transfer case output to the front axle is on the wrong side for a Classic Rangie

I could, but I just couldn't come to terms with adding all that weight in the front. give me time and I could be converted thought...

Bill, the Buick 455 weighs about 150lbs less than the Chevy 454

yeah, but compared to say, an LS1 its still quite a lot of extra mass...
Now I also realise that there is more to a performance package than block weight. And I know I am odd in coming from the se7ening world where 500kgs for the whole package is the goal.
One day I'll get over this fixation, but not tonight as I have been drooling over the TA performance ally 231 V6 blocks and heads. Shame that, at $4k just for the block casting I will never be able to justify one.

Thinking of EFi for the 455 as a long term project.
Do I go MegaSquirt or VEMS?

sorry about that,
if i said go vems i would of been told i was being bias,
It's hard to say mate, as at one time MS was the most sought after ecu,
but now there is vems also.
what do you want from the ecu?
vems does injection with wide band control and ignition control as standard,
where as the MS you need to add megajolt if im correct, i did hear that MS were doing an all in one unit like the vems, Bill will be able to clear this up though if im right or wrong,
Vems is a prebuilt unit which pushes the price up,
where with MS you can buy a kit, get a part built, or a fully built unit, offering a wider range of price options,

If I were you Allan would go for something that has proper support behind it.
If I had not picked up my Emerald cheap I think it would have been the Omex.
