Right,
im now getting desperate for the following prices/parts or the car is NOT going to get done for next years get together:

can anyone recomend any one else besides V8Tuner for the following parts:

crower 50233 cam or similar: £?
double valves springs to match said cam £?
caps for above springs £?
machining work on heads for above springs, (or sell my stg3 and buy a set pre done) £?
rhoads lifters £?
cam retaining plate (doing away with the dizzy £?

Unless I misread the Crower part numbers, a V8 developments H404 (or "stealth") should be a similar cam. The kit was around £400, but that included lifters, timing gear and appropriate valve springs.

I think my TVR heads are somewhere around stage 4, so I can't help with machining since it all just fitted on my car.

I didn't bother with a cam retaining plate, but I may well fit one this year. I'm sure my local Land Rover dealer can supply such things, or I can arrange to have some laser cut.

Yes. Sorry for not replying yet. It's been silly at work over the last couple of weeks... Trying to get all the targets met for the year end so we get our bonuses (to spend on getting another v8 :D )

I will know more about how tractable a 404 can be made with VEMS in the new year when I have the Griff back on the road with new running gear.

keep me posted mate, as im getting to the stage where i need to be ordering parts to get mine back on the road,
your vr sensor bracket that home made or bought?? and where does yours bolt onto mate if you dont mind?

Replied now...

The bracket fits on 2 of the existing bolts on the timing cover. I bought the whole thing as a kit from John Eales a few years ago. Now there are other, cheaper options but none that are as easy to fit IMHO.

Hi Tony,

Well from Pauls web site that lot would come to a shade under £340.00 which doesn't sound too terrible.

You need to check whether the standard collets work with the Crane retainers or need differnet one's, might be a good idea to replace them anyway for reliability reasons.

You mention machining, do you mean the spring seats as I'm not sure that is required unless the dual springs are actually longer. the main thing you need to ensure, is that the springs are installed at the recommmended heights and a few shims may be required, I think Paul or Real Steel have them.

ah maybe im being told some defo info then,
as i was told the inner spring would not fit without some work to the head,
will look further into this then,

Tony,

It may be the diameter of the guide needs work to allow the inner spring to seat correctly but you need to check as I use the normal uprated singles and didn't have this issue.

i have the uprated singles at present,
im tempted to leave them as is and replace the cam and lifters,
but it does state double on the spec card,

Tony,

As long as there in good shape and you keep your rev limit sensible, say a max of 6300RPM which with your choice of cam that peaks at 6000RPM should be all you need to use, they should be fine

The other benefit is less cam wear, increasing the spring rate puts additional stresses right through the valve train and takes more power from the engine.

On the road you will not need to use max revs and on track you will only be at that level for a few seconds on each run, unlike an engine used in a circuit race car, which will be hold high RPM for much longer periods.

Wth the 50233 cam I would think using the Rhoads lifters as you suggested would be a good idea as they will soften the cam characteristics at below 3500RPM giving more torque and putting less strain on the valve gear, they are noisy as you probably know.

Kevin.
